The Castle Creek Lodge - Aspen, CO
As a fairly large and linear home, crafted eclectically from true lodgepole pine logging, colorful shingle jewelry and solid stained concrete, the Lodge at Castle Creek has a way of seeming intimate, quite and friendly. This home is nestled securely against an aspen covered mountain range while it stands proudly in a former haying meadow on the sunny outskirts of Aspen. The Lodge was built to provide its owner with refuge from a self-made LA lifestyle and the disintegration of a dot.com-oriented success. The home was planned as an axially rigorous and clear diagram of the living habits of its owner - fine dining, a warm heart in need of a hearth, an avid reader with a huge and fanciful collection of romance novels and a happy, though beleaguered success in need of big, plush sleeping locations. It is a simple diagram but a special place. With its northern Oregon totem, this log cabin is welcoming, sweet and warming of the heart. Though it is not terribly literal in its interpretation of the western arts and crafts tradition, Molesworth himself would have been at home (and his furniture really is) in this two story arrangement of textured log rooms, hand-made tile baths, and cozy aedicular space.
