Chenoa - A Ranch Stewardship Thesis - Glenwood Springs, CO
Chenoa, the first of many ranch stewardship projects with which Robert E. Fitzgerald and his teams have been involved, was one of the grandest, most ambitious and most difficult. Many previous attempts to logically and sustainably re-use a ranch that had been allowed to go fallow between Aspen and Glenwood, there seemed to be a spirit to the place that strongly resisted even the most respectful change. Filled with ruins and vestiges of its previous uses, all of which would have been stabilized or re-used, the sprawling 6000 acre ranch only appeared to be ready for careful study, a thoughtful owner and the ranch stewardship ideas that were to be perfected later at Storm Mountain and Marabou.
Unfortunately, only the colorful graphic images of the architectural infrastructure and building prototypes remain of this elaborate attempt at conservation and meaningful protection. To this day, the land remains un-utilized and strangely without purpose.
