The Snow Cloud Condominiums at Bachelor Gulch - Beaver Creek, CO
Stepping its way up the steep slope of the original Bachelor Gulch snowfield, this National Parks-inspired development of 54 whole-ownership condos was the predecessor of the existing Ritz Carlton hotel and the precursor of most of log structures which define this huge new resort in Beaver Creek. Constructed of rugged log, stone and expansive glass openings, this building exhibits the rustic elegance of the Colorado Rockies while setting the style of every home that followed its 2002 completion. Elegant façade details include, besides the clever crafting of the base log structure, the layering of figural log railings, shingle-styled gable ends, ship-lap siding accents, colorful window mullions and a western cedar shake roof. The units within are ample, warm and equipped with the ultimate of kitchen and bath functionality. With the snow literally just outside of each of these unique units, (the roofs were carefully sculpted to avoid the nearly touchable lift mechanisms and moving chair paths) this building has quietly set the standard for contemporary snow-side construction. The entire lodge sits atop a well-hidden parking structure and offers a classic arrival porte cochere on the side opposite the snowfield. Mr. Robert E. Fitzgerald, one of the co-founders of NAKA Designs, LLC, was the senior designer of this beautifully crafted mountain development while under the employment of Urban Design Group.
