1401 Wynkoop Street - Vail, CO
This eight to twelve story mixed use development, designed while Lowe Enterprises was interested in one of the last open sites in Lower Downtown Denver, was to comprise two large and articulated masses of building sitting upon a full city block of multi-level parking garage. The idea was to line the garage on the street and Cherry Creek sides with townhomes and retail so as to disguise the obligatory car storage behind street-friendly development.

The "towers" above would contain Class "A" office space and luxury condominiums with amazing views of the Colorado front range to the west. The "historic" sides of the building, those facing the existing LoDo grid, were to tell the story of its surrounding context with masonry scaled openings, multi-colored brick facades, and masses which articulated the historic pattern of party wall buildings. The facades facing the mountains were to enjoy floor to ceiling glazing and were to be expressed in a relatively contemporary fashion. Robert Fitzgerald led the team on this conceptual development. Unfortunately, Lowe was unable to purchase the property; the subsequent development used many of the design strategies described above.
